The new all-electric

The new all-electric Ford Explorer is built on the same MEB platform as its bigger sibling, the Ford Capri, and Volkswagen’s ID.4 and ID.5. While the Explorer is smaller and more affordable than these models, it still offers solid performance and essential features, making it a budget-friendly option for those looking to switch to an electric SUV.

Budget-Friendly Options and Battery Choices
The Ford Explorer has similar power options as the Ford Capri, with an extra affordable choice: the Standard Range (SR) model, which comes with a 52 kWh battery. This makes the Explorer more affordable for people who want an electric SUV on a budget. Although the Explorer's release was delayed, it remains a competitive option in the growing EV market.

Who Is the Ford Explorer For?
The Ford Explorer is designed to be practical for everyday drivers, especially in Europe. It’s compact enough for city use but has enough room inside for longer trips, making it a great choice for families and commuters alike. The trunk, while not the biggest, is still spacious and practical for most daily needs.

Key Specs and Performance
The Explorer is compact but powerful, with three different power options: a 52 kWh battery with 125 kW (168 hp), a 77 kWh battery with 210 kW (282 hp), and a 79 kWh battery with 250 kW (335 hp). The Explorer can charge quickly too, with the top models going from 10% to 80% charge in just 25 minutes. The range varies, from 380 km on the Standard Range model to 602 km on the Extended Range model.

What Makes the Explorer a Good Choice?
The Explorer's MEB platform makes it a solid electric vehicle with a smooth ride and good space. The interior is designed for comfort and ease, with plenty of compartments, an adjustable screen, and a wide trunk for added convenience. It’s a good option if you want a similar experience to the VW ID.4 but at a lower price.

Areas That Could Be Better
While the Explorer’s interior is well-built, it doesn’t feel quite as high-end as the Ford Capri, even though their prices are similar. The touch buttons on the steering wheel could be more user-friendly, as they lack the "feel" of physical buttons, which can be easier to use while driving. Also, since the Capri offers more space for a similar price, some may choose it over the Explorer for a little extra room.

Best Version to Buy
For most buyers, the Extended Range RWD model with the 77 kWh battery is the best choice, as it offers the longest range and is still affordable. If you want a bit more power, the AWD model with the 79 kWh battery is a great option. Adding the Premium package can be a good value, too, as it includes extra features for a reasonable price.
