2025 Toyota GR Supra Drops 4-Cylinder, Keeps Manual

The Toyota Supra, currently in its latest generation since 2020, initially offered a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine producing 335 horsepower. In 2021, Toyota introduced a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine, delivering 255 horsepower, alongside an enhanced version of the 3.0 engine. However, Toyota has now decided to phase out the smaller 2.0-liter engine, leaving the GR Supra lineup with only the 3.0 and 3.0 Premium trims available.

With the discontinuation of the four-cylinder engine, the cost of entry into the GR Supra lineup has increased significantly. Although the year-over-year price hike from 2024 to 2025 is a modest $850, the absence of the $47,535 four-cylinder model means the base 3.0 trim now starts at $57,345. For those opting for more luxury, the 3.0 Premium trim is priced at $60,495. Fortunately, the six-speed manual transmission remains an option at no additional cost, providing an alternative to the standard eight-speed automatic.

The 3.0 trim comes with a range of features, including power-adjustable seats covered in black leather and Alcantara, a 10-speaker audio system, and an 8.8-inch central display. The 3.0 Premium trim enhances the experience with upgraded seating available in either black or hazelnut-colored leather and a 12-speaker audio system. Despite the limited paint options, buyers can choose from Absolute Zero (white), Nocturnal (black), Renaissance Red, and the premium Stratosphere Blue.

As Toyota refines the Supra lineup, enthusiasts and potential buyers will notice a shift in the market position and price dynamics. The move to retain only the higher-powered 3.0-liter engine highlights Toyota's focus on delivering a more performance-oriented vehicle. This decision aligns with the brand's commitment to providing a thrilling driving experience, as evidenced by the continued availability of the manual transmission.

Overall, the 2025 Toyota GR Supra promises to uphold its reputation for performance and style, even as it narrows its engine offerings. The elimination of the four-cylinder option simplifies the lineup, ensuring that all models deliver robust power and a premium driving experience. For sports car aficionados, the 2025 GR Supra remains a compelling choice, combining powerful performance with luxurious features.
