Antilock Braking System ABS

Some time ago, the cars were simple with old brakes and people were trained to control cars in slippery roads by avoiding locking their brakes that may result in skidding.
But the time has changed now and there is much thinking on works on brakes for purpose of control and safety. The Anti-lock Braking System ABS was introduced for this purpose. After 2012, they were extensively used and ABS systems are used by most car makers in new models.
You can know about the working of ABS, its difference from normal brakes and its advantages and disadvantages here below.
History
1970s was the starting time of public introduction of ABS. Pulse the brakes when they are applied forcefully is one of the most important achievements of ABS. Through this, tyres of your cars will not jamm completely and you can have some control on your driving.
Later, the Traction Control System TCS and Electronic Stability Control ESC were also introduced and they also use ABS to apply brakes.
ABS vs Normal Brakes
Normal brakes have simple function as you push the brake pedal which makes the brake hold tightly and stopping the car slowly. But it increases the risk of sliding of car as the car has forward momentum while the tyres are held in a stationary position. The driver is unable to guide the car that can result in an accident.

Comparatively, the tyrs of car in ABS system can move after small intervals after application of brakes. This makes it possible for the driver to retain control of car which maintains road grip and also slows the car at the same time.

Advantages of ABS
• It easily stops the car on slippery surfaces.
• Ability to guide the car even with pressure brake
• Prevents skidding of car
• Reduces stopping distance
Disadvantages of ABS
• More expensive
• Affects car’s electronic system
• Inconsistent distances for stopping of car
But these disadvantages of ABS are considered unimportant because drivers are expected to often practice one of the most important things like braking. ABS has much more important than the price as they are important for your safety.
We can clearly see that avoiding accidents is easier in ABS but drivers can produce same results with normal brakes if they apply the brake pressure after short intervals without having panic. We are hopeful that local car manufacturers will also introduce ABS in their latest car models.
