Baojun YEP Showcased at the 2023 Thai Motor Expo

Baojun Yep, a compact electric off-roader hailing from China, has made its inaugural appearance at the ongoing 2023 Thailand Motor Expo, held from November 30th to December 11th, 2023.

Wuling's Offering in Thailand
This electric off-roader is presented by Wuling, a company already known for selling the Air EV in Thailand. Both Wuling and Baojun are members of the SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation) family, which also encompasses the MG brand. Notably, the Baojun brand emerged from a collaboration between SAIC and GM (General Motors) in China.

Global Debut Outside China
Marking its premiere outside the Chinese market, Yep initially debuted in China earlier this year. The mini off-roader boasts dimensions of 3,381 mm in length, 1,685 mm in width, and 1,721 mm in height, with a wheelbase measuring 2,110 mm—dimensions reminiscent of the 3-door Suzuki Jimny.

Performance and Specifications
Powered by an electric motor delivering 50 kW (68hp) and 140 Nm of torque, Yep can achieve a maximum speed of 100 km/hour. Its 28.1 kWh battery allows for a range of up to 303 kilometers when fully charged, adhering to CLTC standards. The vehicle also supports DC fast charging.

Modern Interior Design
Inside the cabin, Yep embraces modernity with a twin 10.25-inch screen setup serving as both a driving information display and an infotainment system. The console's design accommodates the installation of additional accessories based on usage. While the pricing and launch timeline for Thailand remain undisclosed, Yep is showcased at the expo to gauge public interest.

Yep as an Alternative to Suzuki Jimny
Positioned as a compelling alternative to the gasoline-powered Suzuki Jimny, Baojun Yep enters the scene at a time when Chinese automakers are capitalizing on the diminishing presence of Japanese vehicles in key markets. As the global shift towards banning internal combustion engines gains momentum, Yep emerges as an electrified option, offering an alternative to its non-electric counterparts in the market.
