BYD Dolphin Challenges City and Yaris

BYD has marked a remarkable entry into the Thai automotive market, achieving bestselling status within just a year of its debut in the Land of Smiles. The Chinese automaker's journey began with the Atto 3 EV, and the success story continues with the impressive performance of the Dolphin electric hatchback.

Dolphin Disrupts the Market

The BYD Dolphin made its debut in Thailand in late August, and its impact has been profound. In September 2023, the Dolphin outperformed leading Japanese B-segment hatchbacks, namely the Honda City hatchback and Toyota Yaris hatchback, signaling a shift in market dynamics.

Unprecedented Sales Surge

October witnessed a substantial surge in BYD Dolphin sales, doubling those of the City and Yaris hatchbacks. This trend persisted into November, where the Dolphin's sales skyrocketed, exceeding City and Yaris sales by more than three times. Notably, this 2,825-unit figure for November stands as the highest individual sales for the year, surpassing previous records held by competing models.

Dolphin Dominates Year-End Sales

In just three months since its launch, the BYD Dolphin has secured the title of the third bestselling B-segment hatchback for the entire year. Impressively, the Dolphin has become the segment's leading car, outperforming both the Honda City and Toyota Yaris hatchbacks in sales between September and November.

BYD's Overall Market Impact

With a significant presence of only three months in the Thai market, the BYD Dolphin has surpassed its competitors, with 6,859 units sold compared to 3,494 units of the Honda City and 3,409 units of the Toyota Yaris. This underscores the Dolphin's dominance, surpassing the sales of City and Yaris hatchbacks by a factor of two.

Beyond Hatchbacks - BYD's Expanding Presence

In addition to the success of the Dolphin and Atto 3, BYD's recent introduction of the Seal electric cars has further strengthened its position in the Thai market. With this swift expansion, BYD is poised to become a prominent player in the evolving automotive landscape of Thailand.
