BYD Launches Sea Lion 07: Mid-Sized SUV in Coupé Style

BYD made a striking entrance at the Guangzhou auto show by introducing the Sea Lion 07, marking the debut of the Sea Lion series that integrates SUVs into the Ocean series lineup. This latest addition, the Sea Lion 07, is a mid-sized SUV characterized by a sleek coupe-style design, adhering to BYD's Oceanic Aesthetic design language. The vehicle is crafted on BYD's e-Platform 3.0, developed by the team led by BYD Global Design Director Wolfgang Josef Egger.

Aligned to compete with the Tesla Model Y, the Sea Lion 07 boasts dimensions of 4,830 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, 1,620 mm in height, and a 2,930 mm wheelbase. The model will be available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive variants, featuring BYD's iTAC technology, which includes the DiSus-C intelligent damping control system.

Despite the promising details, BYD has not yet disclosed specific information regarding battery sizes or powertrain specifications for the Sea Lion 07. However, the company did unveil that all forthcoming SUVs within the Ocean series will fall under the Sea Lion model line, while the sedans will be categorized under the Seal line.

BYD, known for labeling its models under the Dynasty series, inspired by historic Chinese ruling dynasties, and the Ocean series, named after ships and sea creatures, is set to make a significant impact with the Sea Lion 07. With an expected price range of CNY 200,000 to CNY 260,000 ($27,600 to $36,000), the Sea Lion 07 positions itself slightly below the Tesla Model Y, offering an attractive proposition for the discerning SUV enthusiast.
