Cavalry Underpass Ready for Traffic Use

The Punjab government recently declared the successful completion of the Cavalry underpass, now open to the public. The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) revealed that the underpass, finished in an impressive 2.5 months instead of the anticipated 6, is ready for traffic, inaugurated by Caretaker CM Punjab Mohsin Naqvi.

According to LDA, the underpass spans 540 meters in length and 15.8 meters in width, facilitating the passage of approximately 200,000 vehicles daily. Notably, it is expected to contribute to fuel savings and improved air quality, particularly benefiting areas such as Gulberg, Kalma Chowk, CBD, Cantt, Cavalry Ground, DHA, and Walton.

The completion of the Cavalry Underpass aligns with ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Ghora Chowk Flyover and Walton Road. The government projects the following opening dates:

  • Walton Road: Ready by January 31, 2024.
  • CBD Main Boulevard unveiling on December 31, 2023.
  • Ghora Chowk Flyover set to open on December 7, 2023.

Initiated in September 2023 to ease traffic congestion in the region, these projects address long-standing issues at Cavalry Ground Chowk, known for severe traffic jams during peak hours. The demand for a Cavalry underpass was met, and the Ghora Chowk flyover has been in consideration for some time.

Walton Road, a crucial link between DHA and Ferozepur Road, historically faced heavy traffic. With the completion of these projects in just three months, a continuous traffic flow is anticipated, alleviating pressure on surrounding roads. Public feedback on the benefits of the Cavalry Underpass is encouraged in the comments section.
