CDA Secures World Bank Assistance for Bus Service Project
The World Bank has officially committed to providing technical assistance to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for its upcoming intra-city bus service. A delegation led by Jen Jungenu Oh conducted a meeting at the CDA headquarters, engaging with officials, including Chairman Anwarul Haq. The World Bank representatives were briefed on the current metro bus operations in the federal capital and the proposed launch of a new bus service. The CDA shared plans for the arrival of 30 buses from China next month, forming part of a larger fleet of 160 buses.
In discussions, the CDA officials outlined their strategy, including the construction of three depots, with a major one located at Zero Point to accommodate the buses. Following a detailed briefing, the World Bank committed to providing technical support specifically for the construction of these depots. Notably, the financial assistance aspect was deferred for consideration at a later stage, leaving the CDA awaiting a decision.
In response to a lack of interest from government-owned companies in the tendering process for the Zero Point depot's contract, the CDA has opted for open tendering. Despite initially inviting bids from five government-owned companies, such as the National Logistics Cell, Frontier Work Organisation, National Construction Company, and Railway Construction Company, none expressed interest. Chairman CDA has appointed Member Planning as the focal person for coordination with World Bank experts, emphasizing the significance of collaborative efforts in advancing the project.
