Changan Unveils Tesla Model 3 Competitor

Changan, a prominent Chinese automaker, has recently introduced the Qiyuan A07 electric vehicle (EV) in the Chinese market. This sleek and spacious sedan offers both Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Extended Range Electric Vehicle configurations, showcasing the brand's commitment to sustainable mobility.

Impressive Electric Range and Power

One of the highlights of the Qiyuan A07 EV is its exceptional all-electric range, boasting an impressive 710 kilometers on a single charge. Additionally, the vehicle's powertrain delivers a peak output of 258 horsepower, promising a dynamic and engaging driving experience.

Changan's New EV Brand - Qiyuan

The Qiyuan A07 is part of Changan's new EV brand, formerly known as OX. With this brand, the automaker aims to lead the charge in the new energy vehicle (NEV) sector in the foreseeable future. It is noteworthy that Changan already has two established NEV brands, namely Deepal and Avatr, making the introduction of Qiyuan somewhat surprising.

Expanding Variants in 2025

Looking ahead, Qiyuan plans to expand its lineup by offering five variants by 2025. Among these, the Changan Uni-V and Changan Lamore (Yida) will be rebranded as Qiyuan A05 and A06, respectively. Notably, these models will exclusively feature Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) powertrains, setting the Qiyuan A07 apart as the sole all-electric option.

Stylish Design and Thoughtful Features

Visually, the Qiyuan A07 boasts a clean and modern appearance. Its sleek design is accentuated by a thin LED running lights strip, retractable door handles, and large five-spoke alloy wheels. The slanted roofline adds a touch of elegance to the overall profile of the sedan. The interior of the A07 is equally impressive, featuring a D-shaped two-spoke steering wheel with the Qiyuan emblem in the center, signifying the brand's commitment to technology.

Technology and Comfort at the Forefront

The Qiyuan A07's interior is equipped with cutting-edge technology and comfort-enhancing features. A prominent 15-inch floating screen takes center stage on the console, offering intuitive controls and infotainment options. Underneath the screen, a middle tunnel houses two wireless phone charging stations and two cup holders for added convenience. The interior also features lovely wooden accents and microfiber trim on the roof and front pillars, exuding a sense of luxury and sophistication.

Impressive Powertrain Options

The Qiyuan A07 shares the EPA1 platform with the Deepal SL03, solidifying its foundation as a reliable and robust electric vehicle. For the EREV variant, the A07 is powered by an 88-hp 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, which acts as a range extender when needed. In contrast, the all-electric variant offers two powerful e-motor options, delivering 218 and 258 horsepower, respectively. Battery choices include a 58 kWh option with a range of 515 km and an 80 kWh option with an astounding 710 km range, ensuring a suitable option for various driving needs.

A Worthy Contender

The Qiyuan A07 certainly comes with impressive features and a striking design, making it a potential competitor to renowned EVs like the Tesla Model 3. While the price tag of Rs. 8 million might raise eyebrows, the A07's combination of technology, range, and style may well justify the investment for environmentally-conscious and tech-savvy consumers.
