Choosing Your Corolla Cross: Hybrid or Gasoline?

Choosing Your Corolla Cross: Hybrid or Gasoline?
Toyota has long recognized the preferences of Pakistani drivers who remain committed to gasoline-powered vehicles. In response to this, the renowned Japanese manufacturer has expanded its Corolla Cross lineup to include an ICE variant. While the hybrid version made its debut in December 2023, targeting competitors like the Haval H6 and KIA Sportage, this recent addition offers a more affordable alternative within the Toyota lineup. Let's delve into the key disparities between these options.
Corolla Cross Overview
Initially launched in hybrid form with three trim levels (Low, Mid, and High), the Corolla Cross now introduces two gasoline variants: 1.8X and 1.8, with the 1.8X serving as the top-tier choice. Despite differences in specifications and price, both the gasoline and hybrid models maintain the same build quality and dimensions.
Engine and Transmission
While the hybrid variants are equipped with a 1.8L 2ZR-FXE engine generating a combined power of 167Hp, the gasoline-powered 2ZR-FE engine delivers 138Hp and a torque of 172N-m. Both variants feature a Continuously Variable Transmission. In terms of fuel efficiency, hybrid models offer a combined mileage of 22 to 25 km/L, whereas the gasoline variant achieves approximately 14 to 15 km/L.
Exterior Features
The Corolla Cross retains its distinctive design elements across both variants, including a bold grill, Bi-beam LEDs, fog lights, and DRLs. However, the base gasoline model lacks certain features like a sunroof and kick sensor boot. Nevertheless, it maintains consistency with black cladding, chrome finish, and other aesthetic details present in the hybrid version.
Interior Comfort
The interior of the gasoline variant closely mirrors that of the hybrid, featuring Tera Rosa red accents, leather seats, and a steering cover. However, certain amenities such as the 7-inch digital infotainment cluster panel are replaced with analog gauges in the ICE variant. Despite these changes, safety features remain consistent, including Hill Assist, Dual-Zone Climate Control, and 7 Airbags, though the Blind Spot Monitoring System is omitted.
In conclusion, for those seeking an entry-level crossover experience without breaking the bank, the Toyota Corolla Cross gasoline variant presents an attractive option. With six available color choices, it offers a blend of affordability and style for discerning buyers.
