Closure of Motorway M-1 Due to Thick Fog Conditions

Dense fog and reduced visibility have prompted the National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) to officially close the M-1 Motorway section from Peshawar to Rashakai. The decision, made in the interest of public safety, underscores the hazardous conditions prevailing on the motorway. Citizens are strongly advised against unnecessary travel, particularly during the early hours of the day when fog is most dense.

A spokesperson for the motorway police emphasized the importance of road safety in adverse weather conditions. Recommending the use of front and back fog lights, the official aims to enhance visibility and reduce the risk of accidents during challenging weather.

In addition to the weather-related announcement, the NH&MP has introduced a new regulation: vehicles without an M-Tag will not be permitted on the motorways. With a strict deadline set for December 31, citizens are urged to acquire an M-Tag to ensure uninterrupted access to motorways.

This development follows the NHMP's significant increase in fines earlier this year, with penalties raised by up to 900%. Notably, the fine for exceeding the speed limit surged from Rs. 750 to Rs. 2500, reflecting a heightened emphasis on curbing reckless driving. The most substantial increase was witnessed in the fine for obstructing emergency vehicles, soaring from Rs. 500 to Rs. 5000. Other traffic violations, including driving without proper lights at night, driving on the wrong side of the road, and operating a vehicle without a license, also incurred substantial hikes in fines.

As the M-1 Motorway closure persists and new regulations come into effect, commuters are reminded to prioritize safety and adhere to the latest guidelines from the NH&MP.
