Digital PDF Driving License Now Accepted in Punjab
In a significant stride towards modernization and digitization, Punjab Police has introduced electronic driving licenses, offering citizens a simplified process for obtaining and using their driving credentials. Here's a comprehensive overview of this noteworthy development.
Applying for a Digital Driving License
Usman Anwar, the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police, has announced that citizens can now apply for their driving licenses through the user-friendly Driving License Information Management System (DLIMS) website. This online platform streamlines the application process, eliminating the need for time-consuming in-person visits.
Your Driving License, Your Way
An outstanding feature of these electronic licenses is their convenience. They can be effortlessly downloaded in PDF format, allowing you to store a digital copy on your smartphone or any preferred device. The worries of misplacing your physical license are now a thing of the past.
A Surge in Driving License Issuance
IG Punjab Police shared that more than 3 million driving licenses have already been issued this year, indicating a significant enhancement in citizens' access to this essential document. Furthermore, the number of driving license centers has expanded from 45 to an impressive 200 locations across Punjab.
Fake License Scam
In a separate yet crucial development, the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) has unveiled a massive scam involving counterfeit driving licenses. A criminal network was exposed, responsible for issuing over 27,000 fake licenses over a three-year period.
Investigations into the scam have revealed that the culprits were charging exorbitant fees ranging from 4,000 to 10,000 rupees for each forged license. Astonishingly, they used a fraudulent website to verify these counterfeit licenses. Despite their efforts, the FIA initially struggled to block these deceptive websites.
Digital Payments
The gang operating this elaborate scam conducted financial transactions through an online app, enabling their illicit activities. Additionally, they possessed a sophisticated printing machine for manufacturing the forged driving licenses.
The introduction of electronic driving licenses undeniably represents a significant advancement in terms of convenience and efficiency for citizens. It also underscores the importance of maintaining vigilance against fraudulent activities within the licensing domain.
