Dongfeng Prepares M-Hero 917 for Global Export
M-Hero (猛士, Mengshi in Chinese) stands as a distinctive sub-brand within the expansive portfolio of the Chinese state-owned automotive giant Dongfeng. In the lineage of M-Hero vehicles, the hardcore off-road electric SUV, M-Hero 917, emerges as the latest addition, making its debut in August. Initially available exclusively in the domestic Chinese market, recent reports indicate that Dongfeng is now gearing up to introduce the M-Hero 917 SUV to international markets.
To facilitate this global expansion, two specialized teams have been mobilized. One team is dedicated to adaptability testing tailored for the European markets, with a specific focus on Germany, France, Sweden, and Norway. Simultaneously, the second team is engaged in testing for the Middle East, concentrating initially on the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.
Turning attention to the vehicle itself, the M-Hero 917 is built on Dongfeng’s innovative M-Tech platform, boasting dimensions of 4,987/2,080/1,935 mm and a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. Available in both Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) variants, it delivers an impressive performance exceeding 1,000 horsepower, housing a substantial CATL battery, and showcasing genuine hardcore off-roading capabilities.
In its pure Electric Vehicle (EV) iteration, the M-Hero 917 features four electric motors with a peak power of 800 kW (1,088 hp). Accelerating from 0-100 km/h in a mere 4.2 seconds, it is powered by a massive 142.7 kWh ternary (NMC) battery from CATL, providing a remarkable maximum driving range of 505 km (CLTC).

On the other hand, the EREV version boasts three electric motors generating 600 kW (816 hp) and incorporates a 1.5L turbocharged internal combustion engine (ICE) with 197 hp. Functioning as a range extender, the ICE does not transfer torque to the wheels but acts as a generator to charge the battery. This version features a 65.8 kWh NMC pack from CATL, resulting in a combined range of 1,032 km (CLTC) when paired with a full 85L tank.
Beyond its exceptional performance metrics, the M-Hero 917 showcases a striking exterior and interior design. Equipped with a rich set of features and amenities, it is anticipated to generate significant interest among buyers in international markets. Dongfeng has outlined that the trials are expected to conclude by March 2024, paving the way for exports to commence thereafter.
