Elon Musk Announces Affordable Tesla Model for 2025
Elon Musk has officially disclosed plans for the development of a "next-generation low-cost" Tesla electric vehicle (EV) and expressed optimism about its availability in the second half of 2025. Additionally, Musk has reiterated his commitment to implementing a "revolutionary manufacturing system" for the upcoming vehicle, claiming that it will surpass existing global systems by a "significant margin."
According to a recent Reuters article, the forthcoming vehicle is anticipated to be a small crossover with the codename "Redwood." Tesla has reportedly reached out to suppliers for quotes, forecasting a weekly production volume of 10,000 vehicles.
It is worth noting that Musk had previously mentioned working on two new EV models capable of selling up to a combined 5 million units annually. "Our current schedule shows that we will start production towards the end of 2025, sometime in the second half," Musk stated. Initially, the "Redwood" will be manufactured at Tesla's Austin, Texas Gigafactory, with plans to expand production to other locations worldwide later.
Musk hinted at an aggressive push to accelerate assembly, stating, "We'll practically be sleeping on the line." Furthermore, he claimed that the company's new manufacturing technique will be "very hard to copy" due to the complexity of copying the machine responsible for creating the production machinery itself—an approach he referred to as "manufacturing inception."
According to Musk, similar to previous processes, the new production line might commence at a slower pace before witnessing a significant ramp-up in production.
