Explore Suzuki Swift's Fresh Base Variant Highlights

The introduction of the all-new Suzuki Swift in the Japanese market has sparked widespread interest. While much attention has been focused on fully equipped models, the spotlight now turns to the lower-spec variant—the Japanese-spec XG version. Here, we delve into what enthusiasts can expect when opting for the base model of the new Swift.

Exterior Features of the Base XG Variant:
In terms of exterior aesthetics, the base XG variant diverges from its fully equipped counterparts. Notable differences include the absence of chrome plastic inserts in the grille and both front & rear bumpers. Additionally, the base model skips rear spoilers, door protectors, and opts for 15-inch steel wheels with covers. While LED headlamps and DRLs remain standard across the range, fog lamps are not included in this base iteration.

Interior Highlights and Options:
Inside the cabin, the steering wheel lacks chrome inserts, and the upholstery is presented in a full-black scheme, deviating from the dual-tone black/silver found in higher-spec variants. The absence of a center armrest and climate control system characterizes the base variant. Optional features include a touchscreen infotainment system and Suzuki Connect telematics with a 9.0-inch display and 6 speakers, available at an additional cost of ¥121,000. Notably, the base variant excludes a 360-degree camera and level-2 ADAS, even as add-on options. All versions, however, come equipped with 6 airbags, reverse parking sensors, and ABS with EBD.

Performance Under the Hood
Powering the base version is the new 1.2L three-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 81hp/107Nm, coupled with a CVT gearbox. Notably, the base variant does not offer a mild-hybrid option. Fuel economy figures stand at 23.4km/l for the 2WD model and 22km/l for the 4WD models.

Regional Variances and Future Launches
While the new Swift has been unveiled for European markets with mild hybrid powertrain features, the Japanese variant exhibits unique aesthetics and features. The anticipated launch in India is slated for the middle of the next year, with regional differences expected. In Pakistan, the arrival of the current-generation Suzuki Swift in February 2022 implies a potential delay in introducing the new model. The market might need to await the obsolescence of the current Swift before welcoming the version presented in the images here.
