Extension of Life of Brakes of Your Car

If you maintain the speed of your car, you need to understand that braking system can play vital role. The faulty brakes can create severe problems and they can damage the car and loss of life. As the braking system and all its parts are hidden so it becomes a challenging task for the drivers to check the brake pads, calipers and rotors. Many mechanics recommend that you should check the brakes about after every six months. It is easier for the mechanic to inspect and service the brakes as they required.

Understanding Braking Systems

You need to understand the braking system of your car and you need new brakes and contact with your mechanic. The cost of parts and labor for the complete brake job can be expensive and you can consider the checking of braking system essential and important to repair them and it will help you to prevent an accident. There are disc brakes in most of the passenger cars and the brakes are added with three main components at each wheel, which are brake pads, rotor and caliper. When you press the brake pedal, the hydraulic signal is sent through brake line to calipers. The signal squeezes the brake pads against rotor and it slows down the rotation. The rotor is attached to the wheel of the car and it creates the friction and slows down the wheels of the car and stops the momentum of the car.

The frictions works on the disc brakes to generate the friction between brake pads and rotor and it creates the heat and wears away surface of brake pads. With the passage of time, brake pads get thinner and rotor and calipers may warp and the skilled mechanic can inspect damage on each component and required repairs are recommended.

Extending Wear Life

During the everyday driving of the vehicle, you may face most of the wear and tear to the braking system and you can get the steps, which every driver need to take to make the braking system of his vehicle durable.

Drive with One Foot – when you drive the automatic transmission vehicle, you need to use one foot for each pedal. It is betters to use each foot to each pedal and this practice can lead to the accident, which the driver use their feet on both pedals. It can cause premature wear on the brake pads as the two-footed drivers apply the pressure on brake pedal before they removed their feet from the throttle. They let the car to stop and increase friction between brake pads and rotors.

Brake Earlier – sometimes awkward conditions are created by other drivers or pedestrians, which require to apply the brake hard and fast to avoid the collision. This style of brake should not be normal and this type of application of brake can wear out the brakes quickly. When they apply the brakes gently, they can stop the car smoothly.

Reduce the Load – If there is more load on the vehicle, it will create more momentum and it is harder to stop the vehicle. The heavy load on the vehicle will create hindrance to stop the vehicle by applying the brakes. You need to consider the removal of the unnecessary weight from the vehicle, when you do not need more weight on your vehicle. The use of extra weight will result in wear and tear of braking system and you spend more money to replace them.

Gear Down – if you are traveling in the long hills and you have to drive down the hill, you need to check the braking system. If you take off your foot from the brake, the car will get acceleration once again. Hills are great to choose the low gear and drive in low gear can force the engine of the car to keep it running at the slower speed without using the brakes.

Routine Maintenance

The manual of the car will be added with instructions to maintain the braking system of the car and you can get some useful rules.

1. Have your mechanic inspected the brake pads and rotors of your car after every six months, when you got rotated the tires of your car.
2. The brake fluids can help to transfer the message to stop from brake pedal to caliper and this fluid should be flushed for about every 25,000 miles.
3. It is good idea to bleed the brake lines after every two or three years and removes the air that may be present in the system.
If you want that the braking system of your car may work for long time, you can get it inspected regularly by the skilled mechanic. He can identify the problems and suggests the solution of this issue to keep the car driving in the right way. You need to keep service and maintenance of the brakes, which is important for the safety of you and other passengers.
