Get Ready to Drive Electric: VW ID.7 VIZZION on Sale Today

FAW-Volkswagen has officially introduced the ID.7 VIZZION to the Chinese market on December 15, aiming to make a significant impact in the competitive electric vehicle (EV) arena. Priced at RMB 227,777 (approximately €29,800), this new entrant claims to be a "game-changer," although skepticism lingers.

The ID.7 VIZZION, a collaborative effort between FAW-VW and SAIC-VW, features three models, each vying for attention in a market saturated with nuanced design differences. With a 5-door liftback body and hidden door handles, its dimensions align visually with the VW ID family design language, measuring 4,956 mm in length, 1,862 mm in width, and 1,537 mm in height. These dimensions position it alongside competitors like the Tesla Model S and Nio ET7.

One distinctive feature is the SkyView glass roof, claiming to block 99% of ultraviolet rays and over 83% of heat, adding an interesting touch to the overall design.

Under the hood, the ID.7 VIZZION boasts an 84.8kWh liquid-cooled NMC battery, offering both single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor four-wheel drive options. The claimed range figures of 642 km for the two-wheel drive and 570 km for the four-wheel drive raise eyebrows due to their seemingly optimistic nature. Safety features include 32% hot-formed steel usage, increased torsional stiffness, a "sandwich" door sill structure, EmergencyAssist 3.0, AEB automatic emergency braking system, and a 360-degree panoramic image plus PDC parking assistance.

Inside, the vehicle offers a 15-inch 2K floating screen, an AR HUD guidance system, and operates on the new-generation car system ID OS 2.0. It features iFlytek voice technology for an advanced user experience, and the hidden air-conditioning vents adjust based on light changes. The audio system boasts a Harman Kardon setup with 16 speakers.

Competing with the likes of Nio ET7, XPeng P7, BYD Han, Zeekr 007, and Zeekr 001, the ID.7 VIZZION enters a challenging market. Despite the tempting starting price, its success hinges on factors beyond the entry fee. As Volkswagen's electric vehicles strive for a more significant presence in the Chinese EV market, the ID.7 VIZZION carries the brand's fate on its shoulders, aiming to alter the landscape with competitive pricing and an extensive feature list.
