Honda Revived the Prelude at Tokyo Auto Show
Japanese automaker Honda has revived another one of its iconic nameplates, the Prelude, at the ongoing Tokyo Auto Show. The concept debuts as a two-door coupe with an electric powertrain that offers a glimpse into the future of Honda's EV lineup, particularly focusing on sports car variants that prioritize driver engagement and performance. The return of the Honda Prelude as an electric vehicle has been anticipated since last year.
A Look into Honda's Upcoming EV Lineup
While Honda hasn't disclosed technical specifications at this stage, the Prelude EV is expected to be one of Honda's upcoming proprietary electric vehicles, differing from the shared GM-supplied platform that the upcoming Prologue crossover will utilize. Notably, the Prelude EV will not feature a manual gearbox, as Honda's CEO Toshihiro Mibe has emphasized the company's commitment to using alternative performance indicators to deliver exhilarating dynamics in their forthcoming EVs.

A Nostalgic Design
The Prelude concept pays homage to the aesthetics of its 1980s and 1990s predecessor. Unlike some contemporary vehicles with extravagant styling, the Prelude EV concept boasts a clean and uncomplicated profile, reminiscent of vehicles like the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86. The front fascia takes design cues from Toyota's hammerhead styling, while the rear features a slim unified light bar positioned just below the integrated spoiler, running the full width of the car.
Details Yet to be Revealed
As of now, Honda has not disclosed technical specifications or provided insights into the car's interior design. An official launch schedule for the Prelude EV remains undisclosed. Stay tuned for further updates on this exciting addition to Honda's electric vehicle lineup.
