Huawei and JAC's Collaboration for Smart Luxury EVs

Huawei and JAC's Collaboration for Smart Luxury EVs
Chinese tech giant Huawei has entered into a strategic collaboration with Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group (JAC), Nio's manufacturing partner, to venture into the realm of luxury electric vehicles (EVs). This groundbreaking partnership focuses on the development of smart, internet-connected EVs, particularly targeting the luxury segment of the market.
The agreement, formalized in Hefei, Anhui province, encompasses not only product development but also manufacturing, sales, and service, all bolstered by Huawei's state-of-the-art smart car solutions. Interestingly, Huawei and Seres are already producing EVs under the Aito brand, indicating a distinct move towards a specialized focus within the EV market.

The primary goal of this collaboration is to usher in a new era of luxury EVs, combining intelligence with seamless internet connectivity. JAC, leveraging its extensive automotive expertise, will spearhead product development, while establishing an advanced production base to optimize manufacturing capabilities.
Under the terms of the decade-long agreement, Huawei or a designated third party will exclusively handle global sales and distribution for the joint models. While the financial impact on JAC in 2023 is expected to be minimal, the collaboration holds significant promise for both companies in terms of future growth and market presence.

While certain details of the partnership remain undisclosed, reports suggest a focus on the ultra-high-end luxury EV market, with an estimated price range of around RMB 800,000. This collaboration marks Huawei's continued expansion into the automotive industry, offering JAC access to Huawei's extensive engineering and development expertise.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo sheds light on a specific project stemming from the JAC-Huawei partnership—a luxury MPV model priced at nearly RMB 1 million. With plans for mass production in the second quarter of 2024 and an ambitious target of 50,000 units annually post-launch, it's evident that both Huawei and JAC are eyeing a significant presence in the evolving EV market, influenced by the success of models like Zeekr 009 and Volvo EM90.
