Hyundai Introduces 2024 Sonata for North American Market

Hyundai has pulled back the curtain on its revamped 2024 Sonata midsize sedan designed for North American markets in a grand unveiling through a YouTube news conference. The 2024 Hyundai Sonata is receiving a futuristic facelift as part of its mid-cycle refresh, including the introduction of the sporty N Line model.

In terms of exterior enhancements, the updated 2024 Sonata showcases fresh front and rear designs. It proudly flaunts a light bar akin to a visor, aligning it with Hyundai's latest vehicle designs, complemented by a bold grille and prominent air intakes at the front. Towards the rear, you'll find full-width H-shaped taillights situated beneath a newly introduced black panel with a textured finish. Every Sonata variant also benefits from the addition of a rear spoiler, aimed at enhancing aerodynamics, as claimed by Hyundai.

For those opting for the Sonata N Line variant, subtle styling cues accentuate its sporty character. This version features quad exhaust tips and distinct 19-inch double five-spoke wheels.

Stepping inside the 2024 Hyundai Sonata, you'll discover a curved display that seamlessly combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen within a unified housing. The good news is that wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now available across all models, along with the convenience of over-the-air updates (OTA).

What's more, the Sonata now offers Hyundai's Traction (HTRAC) all-wheel-drive system, a first for this model. Paired with the 2.5L engine, HTRAC delivers all-weather capabilities and improved driving performance by dynamically distributing torque between the front and rear wheels, responding to varying road conditions and driving scenarios.

Safety and driver assistance features have received a significant boost in the refreshed Sonata. It comes equipped with an array of technologies, including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 1.5 (FCA 1.5), Rear Cross-traffic Collision-avoidance Assist (RCCA), Blind-spot Collision Assist (BCA), Safe Exit Warning (SEW), Safe Exit Assist (SEA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go (SCC with S&G), available Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC), and available Highway Driving Assist (HDA) to reduce driver stress.

A standout feature, Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA), allows users to remotely park and maneuver the vehicle from outside using the smart key. In addition, the Sonata incorporates a Rear Occupant Alert system to detect and notify if an infant is inadvertently left unattended in the vehicle. To enhance the overall driving experience, Sonata's noise, vibration, and harshness performance have been further refined through body reinforcements and a change in steering wheel material.

Under the hood, the updated Sonata lineup offers a range of engine options, including a gasoline-powered 2.5L engine, a 2.5L turbo engine, and a 2.0L hybrid electric (HEV) powertrain. The 2.5L turbo engine has been developed specifically for the N Line variant. The HEV model is equipped with e-Motion Drive, ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride in various conditions. It also introduces paddle shifters and a regenerative braking mode to boost fuel efficiency. Hyundai claims that the new Sonata's aerodynamic design not only improves fuel efficiency but also enhances stability during high-speed driving.

The 2024 Hyundai Sonata is set to hit North American markets in the winter, with pricing details to be disclosed closer to the launch event.
