Introducing the Hyundai Grand i10 Sedan in South Africa

Back in the late 90s, Hyundai, then a rookie automaker from South Korea, entered the Pakistani market with the Santro, making its mark in the budget segment. However, after facing setbacks due to non-automotive ventures, it took a decade for Hyundai to re-emerge, this time under the Nishat Group's financial strength. While positioning itself as a premium brand, Hyundai is still hesitant to offer its full range of quality hatchbacks and sedans in Pakistan.

Hyundai's Presence in South Africa

Hyundai has a different approach in other markets, like South Africa, where it recently introduced the new Grand i10 sedan, also known as Hyundai Aura in India. Along with the facelifted i10 hatchback, the updated sedan aims to capture the South African market.

Powertrain Options

The i10 range in South Africa is available with 1.0L and 1.2L petrol engines. However, the sedan variant is exclusively powered by a 1.2L engine producing 82 hp and 114 Nm of torque, with both manual and automatic transmission options.

Features and Design

The new Hyundai Grand i10 boasts a host of features, including projector headlamps with LED DRLs, LED rear combination lamps, dual-tone alloy wheels, and a modern 8.0-inch infotainment system compatible with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The interior comes with an array of convenience features such as automatic climate control and a rear parking assist, along with essential safety elements like ABS with EBD and dual airbags.

Warranty and Pricing

All new Hyundai Grand i10 models in South Africa come wfcarith an attractive 5-year/150,000 km drivetrain warranty, 7-year/200,000 km drivetrain warranty, and a 1-year/15,000 km service plan. The hatchback is priced between ZAR 229,900 (PKR 35.10 lac) and ZAR 309,900 (PKR 47.31 lac), while the sedan variant is available at ZAR 279,900 (PKR 42.73 lac) for the manual and ZAR 309,900 (PKR 47.31 lac) for the automatic option.

Significance of the Reintroduction

Hyundai's collaboration with the Nishat Group has brought a more diverse range of vehicles to the Pakistani market, but the company remains cautious in its approach, focusing mainly on premium vehicles. The success of the Grand i10 in South Africa could signal future expansions and a more comprehensive lineup for Pakistani consumers.
