Islamabad Metro Bus Prices Set to Surge by 100%
The recent surge in fuel prices has introduced yet another unwelcome burden for the general public, as it now leads to an impending increase in bus fares.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is currently deliberating plans to raise the fare rates for its Orange Line, Blue Line, and Green Line Metro bus services.
This proposal is expected to be presented during an upcoming CDA board meeting, with the final decision regarding the fare adjustments slated for determination at a subsequent board meeting, as disclosed by inside sources.
According to insiders, there is a proposal on the table to elevate the fares for Green and Blue Line buses, transitioning them from their current rate of Rs. 30 to Rs. 60. Meanwhile, the Orange Line bus fare is set to escalate from Rs. 60 to Rs. 100.
An undisclosed CDA official, speaking anonymously, emphasized that the civic agency is grappling with financial constraints that hinder its ability to continue operating these buses at subsidized rates. Consequently, the prospect of increasing fares for the Blue, Green, and Orange Line buses is deemed inevitable, according to the official's assessment.
