Jeep Going Electric with Wrangler and Grand Cherokee by 2028
UAW's president recently unveiled a preliminary labor agreement that has been reached between Jeep, its parent company Stellantis, and the union itself. This agreement not only outlines labor-related matters but also sheds light on the companies' ambitious production plans, notably featuring the introduction of fully electric versions of the popular Wrangler and Grand Cherokee models.
The document specifies that the Wrangler EV is expected to make its debut in 2028, with the Grand Cherokee EV slated to hit the market a year earlier in 2027. These electric vehicles will be manufactured at distinct production facilities; the Wrangler EV will be produced at the Toledo Assembly Complex, while the Grand Cherokee EV will roll off the production lines at the Detroit Assembly Complex.
In addition to these significant developments, the agreement also highlights the forthcoming release of two all-electric models, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, based on the STLA Frame architecture, with a projected launch date of 2027.
Looking back at previous documents, albeit still relatively recent, it's revealed that Stellantis is committed to investing a substantial $19 billion by April 2028. This investment will encompass the establishment of new battery plants, facility upgrades, extensive EV training, and the development of entirely new electric vehicles. Notably, approximately $9.4 billion of this funding is earmarked for the establishment of three new battery plants, indicating a firm commitment to supporting the transition to an electrified future.
While these electrifying developments are on the horizon, there is also anticipation surrounding the launch of the Jeep Recon and the Wagoneer S, promising an exciting period ahead for Jeep enthusiasts and electric vehicle aficionados alike.
