Kia EV5 Now Available in China, Starting from €19,300

Amidst a dynamic week for electric cars, Kia has introduced its latest model, the EV5, to the Chinese market. Unveiled at the 21st China Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition, the EV5 contributes to Kia's expanding electric vehicle (EV) lineup, presenting an appealing price point.

Priced competitively at RMB 149,800 (approximately €19,300), the EV5 is €1,300 lower than its initial pre-sale estimate. The standard range EV5 is equipped with a 64.2 kWh BYD LFP Blade battery pack paired with a 160 kW motor, providing a commendable cruising range of 530 km—more than sufficient for everyday use. While the long-range version extends the range to 720 km, its pricing remains undisclosed.

The interior of the EV5 features a modern aesthetic with a dual-screen layout and a distinctive four-spoke steering wheel. Practicality is emphasized through features like a folding tray and a central drawer-type refrigerator.

Ensuring safety, the EV5 is equipped with 7 airbags and boasts L2+ level assisted driving capabilities. Additional conveniences for the driver include semi-automatic lane changing and remote control functionality.

With support for over-the-air (OTA) updates and UWB digital keys, the EV5 stands out. Its heat pump air conditioning system and 220V external discharge capability further enhance its utility.

Entering the Chinese market with a disruptive pricing strategy and a range of practical features, the Kia EV5 is priced just under €19,600. However, expectations of a similarly revolutionary pricing strategy for Europe and the US are tempered, as it is anticipated that the EV5 will carry a higher price tag when introduced to these markets.
