Kia EV9: First Impressions and Stylish Design

The eagerly awaited Kia EV9 is set to hit the market, and most consumers are yet to catch a glimpse of it in person. Fortunately, we had the opportunity to meet with the flagship SUV in Europe, capturing some images and forming initial impressions.

Exterior Elegance
The GT line model, boasting a satin Blue paint job with black matte accents, presents a mature yet sporty appearance that complements this full-sized SUV. The satin finish is undeniably attractive, although it demands extra effort to keep it clean. Opting for the non-GT version offers a silver glossy model with silver accents, but in both cases, the Kia EV9 features elegant vertical LEDs on the front.

Distinctive Design
The Kia EV9 challenges the conventional design of sloping-roofed cars with its angular and unwaveringly flat roofline. The expansive windows extend to the C-pillar before sharply meeting the roof spoiler.

Impressive Rear Styling
At the rear, the vertical LED trend continues, with taillights sloping from the roof spoiler down to the bumper. The vertical bar design of the indicators adds an interesting touch, although they do not have the dynamic "breathing" effect.

Strong Presence and Practicality
The Kia EV9 boasts a commanding presence, especially from the front, featuring a wide and aggressive stance. Despite its size, the front boot under the hood is relatively small, suitable for grocery bags or a compact suitcase. You can choose between 19-inch, 20-inch, or 21-inch alloys to complement the vehicle's aesthetics, with the 21-inch option particularly appealing when combined with the black paint and matte black accents.

Spacious and High-Tech Interior
Inside the GT line Kia EV9, you'll find a spacious and technologically advanced interior. The list of amenities includes a heated steering wheel, heated and cooled front and middle seats, and separate glass roofs. The bolstered seats are made of Bio PU materials and feature a dual-toned design, emphasizing the use of plant-sourced oils and recycled materials.

Innovative Display and Controls
The vehicle is equipped with two 12.3-inch horizontal displays at the center, providing a sleek and functional interface. Notably, the climate controls are physical, which is appreciated. Beneath the displays, there's a sizable center console with a wide wireless charging pad and adjustable cup or bottle holders.

Outstanding Build Quality
The Kia EV9 impresses with its excellent build quality, characterized by a lack of unwanted noises in the cabin. However, the choice of materials falls short of expectations in its price range, featuring several hard plastics.

Spacious Rear and Flexible Seating Options
The rear doors open wide, simplifying access to the Kia EV9, as expected for a large vehicle. The 6-seat version features captain seats in the middle, which can swivel and have an adjustable tray for added convenience. Alternatively, you can opt for a middle three-seat bench for a more traditional setup. The third-row seats are somewhat narrow for adults but can fold mostly flat, expanding the boot space to a substantial 730 liters.

Dual Battery Options
The Kia EV9 offers two battery options: a 76.1 kWh for rear-wheel drive and a 99.8 kWh pack available in rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. The RWD model features either a 150 kW (long-range model) or a 160 kW (standard range) motor, while the AWD version has motors on both axles, delivering a combined 283 kW. The AWD variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds.

Pricing in Europe and the United States
In Europe, the Kia EV9 is available in two trims: Earth, equipped with the full 99.8 kWh battery and RWD, priced at €77,500, and the GT line with 6 or 7 seats, both priced at €85,500.

In the United States, you have three options: the $59,200 EV9 Light Long Range RWD, the $63,900 Wind e-AWD, and the $69,900 Land e-AWD. The EPA-estimated range for the larger battery models is 489 km, while the 76.1 kWh battery version offers a range of 370 km.
