Kia Sales Remain Strong Despite Sportage Sales Decline

Like other car manufacturers in Pakistan, KIA has been hit hard by the ongoing economic downturn and import embargoes. Despite being the country's largest automaker in terms of market share until mid-2022, the company has seen a sharp decline in sales in recent months. However, KIA managed to post a 7% increase in month-on-month sales in March 2023, despite its top-selling Sportage model experiencing a 14% decline. The inflation rate is higher but KIA remains resilient despite bad sportage sales amid economic challenges.

Although Sportage sales have dropped, KIA's Picanto and Stonic models have been able to offset the damage with their healthy sales. KIA sold just 356 units of Sportage last month, compared to 219 units of Picanto, 132 units of Stonic, and 40 units of Sorento. Sorento remains the least popular car in the KIA lineup.

KIA is not alone in its struggles. Honda Atlas has also experienced a drop in sales, while Toyota, Hyundai, and Pakistan Suzuki Motors Company

have reported slight increases. The overall car sales in Pakistan improved by 54% month-on-month, according to the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association's March 2023 report. However, compared to the corresponding period last year, car sales have decreased by 66%, with only 9,351 units sold.

Among other car manufacturers in the country, Toyota Indus Motors recorded a 6% increase in sales, while Honda Atlas saw a 49% decrease. Pak Suzuki Motors Company saw a surprising 475% increase, selling 5,628 cars in March compared to 978 cars in February. Hyundai Nishat reported a 34% drop in sales, selling 836 units in March compared to 1,271 units in February. Despite the challenging market conditions, KIA has shown resilience and managed to increase its sales in March, thanks to the strong performance of its other models.
