Kia Set to Reveal Customized Electric Vehicles at CES 2024

Kia is boldly marking its return to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) after a five-year hiatus, promising a noteworthy unveiling of a lineup of purpose-built electric vehicles (EVs). The Korean company pledges to seamlessly integrate fit-for-purpose EVs with cutting-edge software and hardware innovations, presenting its vision at the beginning of the upcoming month.

Scheduled to be showcased at CES starting January 9, Kia's upcoming Purpose-Built Vehicle (PBV) lineup is anticipated to unlock new business possibilities. The company aims to introduce five purpose-built EVs at CES, each strategically designed to cater to diverse market segments. This includes a debut model slated for mass production in 2025. The lineup encompasses vehicles tailored for delivery services, ride-hailing, and B2B applications. The unveiling of the small PBV at CES marks the initiation of Kia's foray into the electric revolution.

These PBVs will operate on the new "eS" platform, with Kia's roadmap outlining plans for larger versions that will address various sectors, such as fresh-food delivery, logistics, shuttles, and even mobile offices. To support this ambitious venture, Kia has invested €706 million in a dedicated PBV factory in South Korea, scheduled to commence production in the second half of 2025.

Kia's strategic entry into the purpose-built EV arena is informed by insights drawn from industry leaders like Ford, GM, and Rivian. The company aims to play a pivotal role in assisting major corporations, including Amazon, Walmart, FedEx, and UPS, in smoothly transitioning their fleets to electric vehicles. This calculated move underscores Kia's commitment to innovation and sustainability in the evolving landscape of electric mobility.
