Lahore Dealers Ask Islamabad Biometric System Amid Closure

On Thursday, the Chairman of the All Pakistan Car Dealers and Importers Association, Mian Shoaib, held a meeting with the Provincial Minister for Industries, Commerce, and Energy, S.M. Tanvir, at the Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) to discuss the problems faced by the association. The meeting was also attended by the Excise and Taxation Minister, Bilal Afzal. Request for Adoption of Biometric System

The delegation representing the car dealers and importers requested the adoption of Islamabad biometric model in Punjab due to the current showroom closures. They claimed that Punjab's current biometric system was adversely affecting businesses and revenue. The delegation also expressed their concerns about the closure of the showroom trade certificate.


Government’s Assurance to Resolve Issues

The Provincial Minister, Tanvir, assured the delegation that the caretaker government was committed to resolving the legitimate issues of all businessmen and providing them with necessary facilities. He emphasized that the government was prioritizing traders' problems and was committed to supporting commercial and economic activities in the province.


Reduction of Regulatory Duty

In another development, the federal minister for commerce, Syed Naveed Qamar, issued a warning to auto dealers on Thursday, urging them to reduce the prices of imported vehicles following the elimination of regulatory duty. The minister warned that the additional regulatory duty on luxury goods had expired on March 31 and asked car dealers to lower the prices of imported vehicles accordingly.


Easy Access to Raw Materials

After the staff-level agreement, restrictions on the opening of letters of credit (LCs) will be lifted, the minister stated, adding that with the reopening of LCs, export-oriented industries will have easy access to raw materials. All Pakistan Car Dealers and Importers Association's request for the adoption of Islamabad's biometric system highlights the challenges faced by businesses in Punjab due to the current showroom closures. The government's commitment to resolving traders' issues and the reduction of regulatory duty on imported vehicles is a positive step towards supporting the automobile industry. It is hoped that these efforts will help in reviving the automobile sector and promoting economic growth in the province.
