Lahore High Court Mandates Arrests for Unlicensed Drivers

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has mandated the arrest of motorists operating vehicles without licenses. Justice Ali Zia Bajwa issued the directive during a hearing, emphasizing immediate and indiscriminate action against such drivers. The order stemmed from a case involving a tragic incident where an underage driver caused the death of six family members.

Expressing sorrow over the incident, Justice Bajwa underscored the alarming prevalence of unlicensed drivers. The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) informed the court that out of 7.3 million vehicles, only 1.3 million are licensed. In response to the court's inquiries about measures against unlicensed driving, the CTO stated that they have launched a crackdown on underage drivers, registering 999 cases in the aftermath of the tragic incident.

The incident, which resulted in the death of six family members in a Lahore neighborhood, has prompted calls for stricter measures on underage driving and heightened concerns about road safety in affluent areas of the city.
