Lahore-Islamabad Motorway Toll Tax Raised Once Again!
The toll tax on Lahore-Islamabad (M2) motorway has been raised by 10% following a 20-year agreement between the National Highway Authority (NHA) and MS/More, a subsidiary of the Frontier Works Organization (FWO). This agreement, signed by the NHA in 2014, pertains to the "overlay 86 modernization of Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M2)" under the Build Operate Transfer (BOT) Basis.

In line with the Concessions Agreement, the following annual toll increase structure will be implemented during this phase:
- A 10% increase every ten years from the 2nd operational year until 2026.
- A 7% annual increase from 2026 to 2034.

Citizens Express Concern Over Toll Hike
The recent surge in toll tax rates on the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway is a result of an agreement reached between FWO and NHA, with the federal government playing an indirect role in the decision. This development has sparked concerns, particularly among the economically strained population of Pakistan, notably impacting the heavily frequented M2, the country's most traveled motorway.
Impact on Common Citizens and Travelers
Given the prevailing exorbitant fuel prices, with petrol costing Rs. 290.45 per liter and diesel priced at Rs. 293.40 per liter, this latest toll increase is poised to significantly burden ordinary citizens, especially those who rely on regular travel along this route. It's important to note that even the federal government is constrained in its ability to address this issue.
