Lahore Traffic Police Acts Against Underage Drivers

Following a tragic incident claiming six lives in Lahore, the City Traffic Police has initiated robust measures to curb underage driving in the provincial capital.

The incident, which occurred in Defence Phase 7, involved an underage driver driving at speeds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour, resulting in the untimely demise of 45-year-old Rukhsana and five others.

In response, the CTP has established approximately 200 checkpoints across Lahore to conduct thorough inspections, identifying and penalizing underage drivers.

This crackdown extends beyond the young drivers; traffic police will also take action against the parents of underage individuals found behind the wheel. This comprehensive approach aims to address the root causes of underage driving, creating a deterrent for both young drivers and their guardians.

The decision for strict action follows a concerning trend of accidents involving underage drivers. Afnan, the 8th-grade student responsible for the recent tragedy, admitted to reckless driving at an alarming speed, highlighting the urgent need for measures to tackle underage driving and its potential catastrophic consequences.

By implementing these stringent measures, the CTP seeks justice for the victims and endeavors to prevent future tragedies. The establishment of checkpoints and holding parents accountable sends a clear message that underage driving will not be tolerated, emphasizing the importance of responsible driving habits from an early age.

The hope is that these measures will serve as a deterrent, contributing to making Lahore's roads safer for everyone. As the community mourns the loss of innocent lives, the City Traffic Police's proactive approach signals a commitment to creating a safer, more responsible driving culture in the provincial capital.
