Lahore Traffic Update: Expired and Foreign Driving Licenses
The Lahore Traffic Police has declared that it will refrain from registering cases against individuals possessing expired or foreign driving licenses. Chief Traffic Officer Mustansar Feroze, in a statement on X, directed the police not to initiate cases against motorists holding valid learner's permits, expired licenses, or licenses from other countries.
Previously, the traffic police had announced Rs. 2,000 fines for individuals with valid learner's permits, but the recent directive implies a change in this approach. However, the statement does not explicitly mention whether individuals with expired licenses will now face fines.
This development comes after the Lahore High Court (LHC) mandated authorities to apprehend individuals driving without a valid license. Furthermore, Station House Officers (SHOs) were cautioned about potential strict actions if they failed to enforce the court's orders in their respective areas.
In a related move, the Punjab Education Department has implemented a prohibition on students bringing cars or motorcycles to schools. School authorities received a stringent directive in this regard.
Contrastingly, the Punjab Excise Department has communicated a delay in vehicle registration card issuance, attributing it to a month-long delay in the tendering process. The department assured citizens that the delivery of vehicle registration cards would resume once the tendering process is completed.
