The automotive landscape has been dominated by Sports & Cross Over Utility Vehicles (SUVs) for a considerable period. These versatile vehicles have seen numerous global iterations, with three-row SUVs garnering significant international attention. While some models are recent entrants, others have enjoyed long-standing prominence. In Pakistan, locally assembled options like Honda BR-V, DFSK Glory, Tiggo 8, Oshan X7, and the sought-after Toyota Fortuner provide diversity in the three-row segment.
Global Impact and Local Offerings
Korean automakers, particularly Hyundai and Kia, have also held their own on the global stage, with models that extend their influence to Pakistan. Kia Pakistan introduced the locally assembled Sorento in early 2021, while Hyundai Pakistan ventured into the three-row market with the imported Hyundai Santa Fe in 2019. The latter, despite being well-received, faced challenges due to its premium pricing.

Unveiling the Hyundai Santa Fe
Originating from the New Mexico city of Santa Fe, this nameplate has held a significant place in Hyundai's lineup. Starting as a compact SUV in 2000, the Santa Fe evolved into a mid-size option available in both 3-row and 2-row configurations. Hyundai recently launched the 5th-generation Santa Fe globally, which is set to hit North American, Korean, and European markets later this year.
The Santa Fe's Journey to Pakistan
The speculation regarding the introduction of the Hyundai Santa Fe in Pakistan has transformed into reality, as images of a locally assembled vehicle emerged from a discreet video shoot near Deosai. This confirmation indicates the arrival of a 4th-generation model to the Pakistani market. Notably, the 5th-generation model is not available outside Pakistan yet, making its appearance in the local market unlikely.

Exploring the 4th Generation
The 4th-generation Santa Fe, with chassis code "TM," entered production in 2018 and received a substantial facelift in 2020. This generation shares its underpinning with the 3rd-generation Kia Sorento. Hyundai's modular N-platform has elevated the vehicle's performance, safety, and interior space, enabling the introduction of hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants.
Unveiling the Design
The facelifted Santa Fe presents a revamped exterior, courtesy of Hyundai's German design studio. The model showcases a modern aesthetic, with a wider grille, distinctive LED headlights, and various wheel options. The interior boasts an array of features, including a floating center console, infotainment screens, and a suite of safety and comfort offerings. While specific features might vary in the Pakistani model, an emphasis on modernity and technology is evident.

Driving Dynamics and Safety
The Santa Fe's N3 platform not only enhanced driving dynamics but also augmented safety. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) include blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and more. The vehicle's hybrid variants integrate an electric motor, improving fuel efficiency and providing an eco-friendly option.
Anticipating the Launch and Beyond
As the launch of the locally assembled Hyundai Santa Fe nears, the Pakistani market awaits a three-row SUV offering a blend of performance, technology, and comfort. While the hybrid version appears to be a certainty, speculation surrounds potential conventional gasoline engines. Considering the current auto policy, the price point, and market dynamics, Hyundai Nishat aims to position the Santa Fe competitively while delivering a well-equipped and safety-focused package.
In a time where economic challenges and high interest rates impact the automotive sector, Hyundai's pricing strategy and value proposition will play a pivotal role in shaping its reception in the Pakistani market. As enthusiasts await the official unveiling, the anticipation is matched with the hope for an SUV that meets both aspirations and affordability.
