Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has implemented a ban on the purchase of petrol bikes in Islamabad, a decision reached during a Capital Development Authority (CDA) meeting focused on city development projects.

The move aims to elevate Islamabad to a global standard, emphasizing environmental concerns by promoting electric vehicles. Only electric motorcycles will be permitted for private purchase, while eco-friendly electric buses will be introduced for public transport, as per media reports.

Petrol bikes, such as Honda CD70 and United models, boast extensive options, affordability in maintenance, and robust resale value. Conversely, Pakistan lacks adequate infrastructure for electric bikes, faces higher costs for parts, and struggles with lower resale values. Thus, the ban has surprised many, given these disparities.
