Multan Orange Line Train and Metro Bus Fares Increased

The caretaker government of Punjab has recently given its approval for a fare increase for both the Orange Line train and Multan metro bus services. Media reports indicate that the fare for the Orange Line Metro Train project is set to rise by five rupees, with a similar increase approved for the Multan metro bus fare.

Feeder Bus Fares Also Witness a Five-Rupee Hike

In addition to the fare adjustments for the main transportation services, the caretaker government has also sanctioned a five-rupee increase in feeder bus fares. This decision is attributed to the recent surge in fuel prices, prompting the need for revenue adjustments.

Expected Impact on Revenue and Services

The Punjab Mass Transit Authority anticipates that these fare increases will result in an additional annual income of Rs. 82.85 million from fare revenue. It is noteworthy that fares for the Lahore and Rawalpindi-Islamabad metro bus services will remain unchanged despite the adjustments in other regions.

Previous Rejection and New Initiatives

Previously, caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi had dismissed a proposal suggesting a Rs. 15 fare hike for the Metrobus and Speedobus services. However, Naqvi has approved the introduction of electric buses at Lahore Railway Station and Tagrin Town. A pilot project, supported by the World Bank, will involve the operation of 27 electric buses in Lahore.

Electric Buses for Islamabad-Rawalpindi Metro Bus Service

The Punjab government has taken a decision to introduce electric buses for the Islamabad-Rawalpindi metro bus service. This move, discussed during a meeting of the Punjab Mass Transit Authority, also considered a proposal for deploying diesel hybrid regenerative buses. Additionally, the caretaker CM directed efforts to address the staff shortage at the Punjab Mass Transit Authority.
