New 2024 Kia K5 / Optima Launches in South Korea

Almost four years after the debut of the 5th generation Kia K5 (Optima), the South Korean automaker has officially introduced a refreshed model of the K5 in its domestic market.

Updated Design and Pricing

The 2024 Kia K5 is now available for pre-orders, with prices ranging from 27.84 million to 39.54 million won (approximately RM98,287 to RM139,743). The new model features modifications such as smaller headlamps and a more dynamic daytime running light signature. It also includes a redesigned rear bumper with a diffuser-like element, trapezoidal-shaped exhaust trim, new alloy wheels, and distinctive 3D-effect headlamps with trailing light bars across the rear.

Enhanced Interior and Technology

Inside the vehicle, Kia has introduced its next-generation entertainment system called the "connected car Navigation Cockpit," displayed on a touchscreen in the dashboard, alongside a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The interior enhancements continue with features like over-the-air updates, integrated video streaming services, the Kia Digital Key 2, an optional 12-speaker Krell sound system, and a wireless charging pad. Audio and climate controls have been integrated into a single panel with capacitive touch buttons and knobs, similar to the latest Sorento and EV6. The traditional gear lever has been replaced by a rotary gear selector.

Expanded Color Options and 'Black Fit' Package

The refreshed K5 offers three new interior colors: Sand, Martian, and Black. These join two new exterior colors, Wolf Gray and Moonscape Matte Grey. Additionally, there's a 'Black Fit' package that adds 18- or 19-inch wheels, a suede headliner, black-finished mirror caps, rear diffuser, and tailpipes.

Performance and Engine Options

The updates extend beyond aesthetics. The new K5 features a revised suspension setup for improved ride comfort and enhanced sound insulation. It's available with multiple engine options:

2.0L naturally-aspirated MPi petrol unit (158 hp, 196 Nm)
1.6L turbocharged T-GDi petrol engine (178 hp, 265 Nm)
2.0L naturally aspirated LPi engine running on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) (144 hp, 191 Nm)
Hybrid option with a 2.0L naturally aspirated petrol engine and an electric motor, delivering a total system output of 192 hp. All engine options come with either a 6-speed automatic gearbox or an 8-speed auto transmission for the turbocharged variant.
