New Toyota Crown Sport Hybrid Debuts in Japan

New Toyota Crown Sport Hybrid Debuts in Japan
The Toyota Crown Sport has recently entered the Japanese market, expanding the already diverse lineup of electrified vehicles bearing the Crown nameplate. This introduction comes on the heels of Toyota's decision in July 2022 to revive the esteemed Crown name, which has a rich heritage spanning 15 generations. While we typically associate the Crown with sedans, the new Crown series includes a variety of models, including crossovers and SUVs.
Striking Design Features
The Toyota Crown Sport boasts a distinctive design characterized by contoured bodywork and muscular rear fenders that elegantly showcase its 21-inch alloy wheels. The front fascia proudly displays Toyota's latest signature design element—the hammerhead lights. Meanwhile, the rear end exudes athleticism with horizontally oriented LED taillights, a sleek and sharply sloped windscreen, and vertical outlets on the rear bumper.

Dimensions and Comparison
In terms of dimensions, the Toyota Crown Sport measures 4,720 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,565 mm in height. These measurements make it 260 mm shorter, 40 mm wider, and 25 mm taller than the Crown Cross.
Interior and Advanced Technology
Inside the cabin, you'll find a modern dashboard featuring a sizable 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. The interior design shares similarities with the Crown Cross, offering a sense of continuity within the Crown family. Notably, the Crown Sport incorporates Toyota's "sound-regulating ceiling," which enhances the cabin's tranquility, making it an ideal environment for passenger communication. The vehicle also comes equipped with the latest version of Toyota's Safety Sense ADAS suite, offering features like Proactive Driving Assist and Toyota Teammate Advanced Drive, which prove invaluable in navigating congested traffic.

Versatile Powertrain Options
The Toyota Crown Sport provides buyers with a choice between two distinct powertrain options: a self-charging hybrid and a plug-in hybrid. The self-charging hybrid variant utilizes the 2.5L E-Four Parallel Hybrid System found in the Crown Crossover, delivering a combined output of 231 hp to all four wheels through an electric 4WD system. While specific details about the plug-in hybrid are limited, Toyota has confirmed that it will offer an extended electric vehicle (EV) range thanks to a new "large-capacity lithium-ion battery" that minimally encroaches on cabin space.
Production and Availability
Production of the Toyota Crown Sport will take place at Toyota's Tsutsumi Plant in Japan, with a monthly production target of 700 units. Initially, it will be exclusively available in the Hybrid Sport Z grade, priced at ¥5,900,000 ($39,620). Orders are currently being accepted in Japan, with deliveries of the hybrid model scheduled to commence in November, followed by the plug-in hybrid variant in December.
