NHA Increases Toll Rates Across Major Motorways
The National Highway Authority (NHA) has announced an upcoming rise in toll tax rates for vehicles traveling on several key motorways, effective July 1, 2024. This adjustment impacts major routes including the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1), Lahore-Abdul Hakim (M3), Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad-Multan (M4), Multan-Sukkur (M5), DI Khan (M14), and the Hussainabad-Hasan Abdal-Havelian-Mansehra Motorway (E35).
Specifically, toll rates for cars on the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway (M-1) will increase from Rs. 240 to Rs. 350, with vans rising from Rs. 400 to Rs. 550, coasters and minibusses from Rs. 550 to Rs. 700, buses from Rs. 790 to Rs. 1000, trucks from Rs. 1040 to Rs. 1300, and trailers from Rs. 1270 to Rs. 1500.

The NHA has stated that the additional revenue generated from these tolls will be allocated towards the maintenance and improvement of national highways, aimed at enhancing travel safety and efficiency for all road users.
These revised toll rates will remain effective until further notice. Earlier concerns about a significant toll increase were raised following a viral tweet on May 25, 2024, by journalist Sanaullah Khan from Dawn News. The tweet, which included a screenshot of an official NHA document outlining the new charges, triggered widespread public reaction. The recent announcement confirms the adjustments anticipated in the tweet, underscoring the NHA's efforts to sustain and upgrade Pakistan's vital road infrastructure.
