Nissan Will Launch Two New Electric Cars in 2026

Nissan, the renowned Japanese automaker recognized for its innovative and dependable vehicles, is embarking on an exciting transformation of its plant in Mississippi, United States (US).

With an investment of $500 million, Nissan aims to convert the facility into a prominent hub for manufacturing electric vehicles (EVs) in North America. Previously dedicated to gasoline-powered cars since 2003, the plant will now shift its focus toward the production of EVs.

By the mid-2020s, Nissan plans to introduce a diverse range of EVs under its Nissan and Infiniti brands, all of which will be manufactured at the Canton facility in Mississippi. This plant is expected to serve as the core of Nissan's EV strategy for the next five to six years, incorporating new technology and platforms.

Nissan already possesses experience in crafting EVs, notably demonstrated by the successful launch of the Leaf hatchback over a decade ago. The forthcoming EVs from the Canton plant will incorporate advanced technology, offering appealing features like next-generation connectivity and stylish designs.

Initially, the plant will continue producing gasoline-powered Altima sedans while gradually commencing the production of EVs. According to the production plan, the Canton facility will unveil two electric sedans in 2026, followed by two electric crossovers in 2027 and 2028.

To facilitate the manufacturing of these new EV models, the plant will undergo expansion, accommodating areas dedicated to battery pack assembly and other crucial components.

Although the specific timeline for discontinuing the production of gasoline-powered cars has not been disclosed, the head of production and engineering at Nissan North America has affirmed that all known future developments for the Canton plant revolve around EVs. This indicates a greater emphasis on electric vehicle production in the plant's future.
