Old Vehicle Registration Book Replacement with Smart Cards

Punjab Excise Department will issue the smart cards as the substitute for vehicle registration books from this Monday.


The excise department has finalized the arrangements to introduce new vehicle registration system. According to the details, smart cards will be replaced with vehicle registration books according to the new system. Old Vehicle Registration Book Replacement with Smart Cards.


The department will send the smart card at the address of the applicant. The machines have already been procured for the generation of the smart cards and these machines can generate about 22,000 cards daily. The huge number of issuance will be managed and the present system can issue 8000 registration books per day in Punjab.


The new system will be more efficient and it will enable the digitization of vehicle registration process. The smart cards have small size if compare them with the registration books and it is very easy to carry them. The new smart cards will have the similar physical dimensions as the normal identity cards.


The sources are available for the implementation of this technology and it is not binding upon anyone to replace the registration books with the smart cards. The owner may avail this facility and the smart cards will cost Rs.530 and these cards will contain the chip to show the previous status.


Smart Card Details


There are some other features of this smart phone as it bears the names of the vehicle owner, details of national identity card, registration number, chassis number, date of registration, previous registration if any and engine number and the number of cylinders.




You will also find the engine number, token tax expiry date, type of body, color of vehicle, class of vehicle, name of manufacturer, unladen weight, reg laden weight, front axle, tire size, rear axle, other axle, seating capacity, year of manufacturing, assessed annual tax and horsepower/CC.

The government is going to introduce the new registration system and it intends to ensure prevention of fabrication, forged documents with streamlining of entire registration process.
