Omoda E5 EV and Jaecoo J7 PHEV Set to Launch in Pakistan

Last week, we unveiled the news of Chery International’s plans to introduce new cars in Pakistan under its Omoda and Jaecoo brands. In an exclusive live stream, Mr. Ryan Wang, the Brand Manager of Omoda and Jaecoo, provided GARI.PK with additional insights into the upcoming Omoda E5 EV and Jaecoo J7 PHEV.

Omoda E5: Targeting Gen-Z with Stylish Features

The Omoda E5, classified as a mainstream electric vehicle (EV), is strategically designed for Gen-Z buyers and a younger demographic. This choice is reflected in its styling and features, positioning it as an attractive option for those seeking a modern and stylish electric vehicle.

Jaecoo J7 PHEV: Luxury Off-Road SUV for High-End Buyers

In contrast, the Jaecoo J7 PHEV aims at a more luxurious market segment, specifically targeting high-end buyers. Positioned as an off-road SUV, the J7 PHEV boasts superior styling, larger infotainment screens, advanced driver-assist features, and enhanced off-road capabilities, including a locking differential, giving it a competitive edge in the Pakistani market.

Chery International's Claims and Competitive Edge

Chery International asserts that the J7 PHEV surpasses its competitors in styling, infotainment, driver assistance, and off-roading capabilities. With a locking differential, it aims to establish itself as a prominent choice in the Pakistani automotive landscape.

Omoda E5 and the Charging Infrastructure Challenge in Pakistan

As the Omoda E5 enters the Pakistani market, it faces competition from the MG ZS EV. Both vehicles offer similar ranges and platforms. Recognizing the inadequacy of Pakistan's electric car charging infrastructure, Omoda plans to address this challenge by establishing charging infrastructure in major cities across the country.

Price and Launch Details: Anticipation Grows

While pricing details for Pakistan remain undecided, expectations are for competitive pricing targeting similar specifications as vehicles like the Toyota Corolla Cross and Hyundai Santa Fe, which will be competitors for the Jaecoo J7 PHEV. The Omoda E5 will position itself against the MG ZS EV. Keep in mind that the Omoda E5 costs approximately Rs. 1 crore in Malaysia, and the price for the Jaecoo J7 PHEV in Pakistan is yet to be finalized.

Mr. Ryan Wang expressed the company's eagerness to launch these vehicles in Pakistan as soon as possible. A more precise launch date is anticipated to be finalized by the second half of 2024.

Chery International: Ambitious Plans for the Pakistani Market

Chery International has set its sights on the Pakistani market, backed by its impressive financial performance. In 2023, the company achieved an income of CNY 300 billion and exported nearly 1 million vehicles, making it the largest passenger vehicle exporter in China for the past 21 years. With such accomplishments, Chery International is poised for significant contributions to the Pakistani automotive landscape.
