Once Again, Pakistan Railways Raises Train Fares
Commencing December 1, Pakistan Railways has once again opted to augment its fares, effecting a 5% increase, as confirmed in an official notification. This decision echoes a similar measure enacted in September, responding to a notable escalation in petrol and diesel prices.
The recent 5% fare hike encompasses all train categories, spanning shuttles, passenger trains, express services, and freight transportation. Over the past quarter, the railway ministry has sequentially implemented a cumulative 25% increase in both passenger and freight train fares.
The prior adjustments occurred on August 10, incorporating a 10% increase, followed by a 2% rise in September. These successive fare modifications underline the persistent challenges faced by Pakistan Railways in light of economic fluctuations and fuel price volatility, necessitating periodic adjustments to uphold operational sustainability.
Passengers are now required to acclimate to these alterations in the cost structure of railway services. The recurrent fare adjustments underscore the delicate balance that Pakistan Railways strives to maintain amidst economic uncertainties, aiming to ensure the continued functionality of its services amid the ever-changing economic landscape.
