Petrol and Diesel Prices Soar in Pakistan: 16th April 2024

In a recent development, the Government of Pakistan has made revisions to the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) for the upcoming fortnight spanning from April 16th to April 30th, 2024. The decision entails a notable increase in both petrol and HSD rates.

Effective immediately, petrol prices will see a surge of Rs. 4.53 per liter, while the price of HSD experiences a significant hike of Rs. 8.14 per liter. Consequently, the new price of petrol stands at Rs. 293.94 per liter, while HSD will now be priced at Rs. 290.38 per liter.

These adjustments come into effect at midnight on April 16th, 2024, and will remain applicable for the remainder of the month. The Finance Division, in its official notification, attributed these changes to the prevailing upward trend in international petroleum prices. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has meticulously calculated the consumer prices, taking into account the fluctuations observed in the global market.

The recent notification follows the pattern of the previous fortnightly review, where the federal government raised petrol prices by Rs. 9.66 per liter, juxtaposed with a reduction of Rs. 3.32 per liter for high-speed diesel (HSD). This demonstrates the government's ongoing efforts to balance domestic fuel prices in response to international market dynamics, ensuring a transparent and equitable pricing mechanism for consumers across Pakistan.
