Petrol Prices Likely To Decrease By Up To Rs. 10

It has been reported that the incumbent government in Pakistan is planning to provide relief to the inflation-stricken middle class by passing on the impact of the decrease in global petrol prices. The expected relief in petrol prices is speculated to be more than Rs. 5 per litre or up to Rs. 10, while diesel prices may observe a decrease of up to Rs. 20.

New Fuel Prices in Pakistan

After the recent increase of Rs. 5 per litre, the current petrol price in Pakistan is Rs. 272 instead of the previous rate of Rs. 267. The new price of High-Speed Diesel (HSD) is Rs. 292 compared to the previous rate of Rs. 280, which saw a jump of Rs. 13 per litre. Kerosene Oil has observed an increase of Rs. 2.56 per litre, taking the price to Rs. 190.29 against Rs. 187.73. The price of Light Diesel Oil (LDO) remained unchanged and still stands at Rs. 184.68 per litre.

No Cheap Petrol for Motorcyclists

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has seriously objected to the government's proposed scheme of providing cheap petrol for motorcycles, rickshaws, and cars up to 800cc. The government had initially planned to increase petrol prices for car owners by Rs. 50 per litre and relieve the lower-income segment of society from it. However, the lender body has raised questions about the subsidy amount for this scheme, how many consumers will come under this plan, and how much loss the government will face. The IMF has asked Islamabad to provide a detailed proposal for the scheme.

According to sources, a virtual meeting was held between both sides, during which the IMF stressed the need for a revised plan that provides more targeted and effective subsidies for people experiencing poverty.
