Porsche Confirms Fully Electric Cayenne for 2030

Porsche announced that the Cayenne SUV will feature at least three different powertrain options by 2030. The German automaker shared photos of camouflaged Cayenne prototypes currently undergoing testing. This includes the exciting addition of an all-electric Cayenne in its upcoming fourth generation.

Fully Electric Cayenne Confirmed
The next-generation Cayenne, Porsche’s largest luxury SUV, will transition to an all-electric model, sharing the platform with the newly released Macan Electric SUV. Porsche CEO Oliver Blume stated, "The Cayenne has always set the standard for sports cars in its segment. Mid-decade, the fourth generation will redefine the segment as an electric SUV." However, this new Cayenne EV will differ from the "K1," a large three-row electric SUV also in development on a separate platform.

Design and Features
The camouflaged prototypes reveal that the new Cayenne EV will feature quad-motif upper headlights and lower full-beam headlights integrated into the front fascia. The front also shows a large rectangular air intake with adjustable shutters and a central camera or sensor. The rear design includes a grid-like structure with distinctive taillights and a substantial rear bumper, which may not be the final production design. Roof rails are also visible, indicating potential for cargo attachments.

Gas-Powered Cayenne Continues
Despite the shift towards electric, the current third-generation gas and hybrid Cayenne models will continue to receive updates past 2030. These will be sold alongside the new electric fourth-gen Cayenne, though they will only share the name and some exterior design elements. This is a longer overlap than the Macan, which will transition entirely to electric by 2025. Porsche confirmed that V-8 Cayenne models will remain available, with updates ensuring they meet future emissions regulations.

Electric Cayenne on PPE Platform
The electric fourth-gen Cayenne SUV is expected to arrive around 2027, if not sooner. It will likely adopt many features from the Macan Electric SUV, which uses a 100-kWh battery powering front and rear electric motors for all-wheel drive. The Macan EV offers power ranges from 335 to 630 horsepower and a driving range of up to 310 miles. The Cayenne EV is also expected to include adjustable air suspension, enhancing its luxury appeal.
