PPDA Defers Strike After Fruitful Ministerial Talks

The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has postponed its planned strike until Monday following productive discussions with Petroleum Minister Musadik Malik.

A Positive Outcome from Talks

In a significant development, the Association issued a "Letter of Understanding" on Friday, announcing an agreement reached during the discussions. According to the letter, both parties acknowledged the need for a reasonable upward revision in dealers' margins.

Margins to Be Adjusted Based on Consensus

To ensure fairness, the proposed increase in margins will be calculated using actual data, subject to agreement from all concerned stakeholders. Within the next 48 hours, the revised margin figures will be officially disclosed.

Postponement of Indefinite Distribution Shutdown

Initially, the Association had planned an indefinite distribution shutdown scheduled to commence at 6 AM on Saturday (July 22). The decision was prompted by the alarming losses faced by the PPDA due to the surge in sales of smuggled petrol and diesel from Iran.

A Plea Ignored

Before resorting to the strike, the association had made an official request to the petroleum minister, highlighting various issues, including the smuggling problem. Regrettably, the minister had not responded to address their grievances.
