Proton X90 Makes Its Grand Entrance in Brunei
In Brunei, Proton's Proton X90 is making waves with its availability in four different variants, catering to a wide range of customers. Prices for these variants start at 35,000 Brunei dollars (RM120,000) for the Standard model and go up to BND42,000 (RM144,000) for the Flagship variant. Proton has reason to celebrate as well, as August marked a historic milestone for the company in Brunei. It was their best-ever month in terms of sales, with 100 vehicle units registered, breaking the three-figure mark for the first time.

While the global economic climate has presented challenges for Proton's export business, the Malaysian automaker remains steadfast in its commitment to expanding its presence in existing export markets. This expansion is seen as a crucial component of their long-term goals. According to Steven Xu, the director of international sales for Proton, the introduction of the X90 in these markets just three months after its debut in Malaysia is a testament to this commitment. Xu stated, "We view this as an investment in our future, as we position ourselves to take advantage of improved market conditions in the future."
Proton is not limiting its ambitions to Brunei alone. The company is actively exploring opportunities in other markets as well. Currently, groundwork is underway in countries like Fiji, Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Iraq, among others.

However, the situation in Pakistan presents a contrasting picture for Proton. The company has faced challenges in the Pakistani market, with four authorized dealerships parting ways with the Malaysian automaker and its local partner in the last month. This departure stems from the failure to deliver vehicles that had been booked for over two years. Proton had launched the X90 SUV in Pakistan in December 2020 and the Saga in April 2021, but many customers are still waiting for the units they booked more than two years ago.
