Punjab Government Unveils Five New Expressways Plan

The Punjab government has embarked on an ambitious plan to bolster travel infrastructure across the province by constructing five expressways connecting major districts. Recently, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz gave the green light to allocate a substantial budget of Rs. 139.5 billion for these vital projects.

Minister for Communication and Works, Sohaib Ahmed, took the helm to unveil the comprehensive plans during a recent announcement. These plans outline the details of the proposed expressways, aiming to streamline connectivity and foster economic growth.

Among the significant projects slated for development are:
  • The Bahawalpur N5 to Jhangra Sharqi Interchange Expressway, stretching across 42 kilometers, with an estimated budget of Rs. 13 billion.
  • The Multan to Vehari Expressway, covering a distance of 93 kilometers, allocated a budget of Rs. 26.50 billion.
  • The expansive Chichawatni to Pir Mahal-Shorkot to Garhmahraja-Chowk Azam to Layyah Expressway, spanning a substantial 199 kilometers, with a budgetary allocation of Rs. 66 billion.
  • The Sahiwal to Samundri Interchange Expressway, extending over 57 kilometers, with a budget set at Rs. 23 billion.
Lastly, the Faisalabad Chiniot to Kamal Pur Interchange to Tehsil Chowk Chiniot Expressway, with a length exceeding 24 kilometers, and a budget of Rs. 11 billion.
Minister Sohaib Ahmed emphasized that the residents of Bahawal, Multan, Vehari, Chichawatni, Pir Mahal, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Chiniot, and Layyah will greatly benefit from these infrastructural developments. These expressways not only promise to enhance connectivity but also to spur economic activities, facilitating smoother transportation and fostering regional development.
