Punjab Increased Driving License Fees
In a recent development, the Punjab government has decided to implement a substantial increase in driving license fees, marking a significant change in the existing fee structure that has remained unchanged for two decades.
Learner License Fees Revised:
Previously, the fee for a learner's license for 5 years stood at a fixed rate of 60 rupees. However, the government has now opted for a new pricing strategy, setting the learner's fee at 500 rupees per year. This marks a considerable shift in the financial burden on individuals seeking to obtain a learner's license.
Motorcycle License Adjustments:
The 5-year motorcycle license fee, previously set at Rs 550, will now be charged at Rs 500 per year. Similar adjustments have been made for motorcycle rickshaw licenses, with the 5-year fee transitioning from Rs 550 to an annual charge of Rs 500.
Changes in Motor Car and Jeep License Fees:
The 5-year fee for motor car and jeep licenses has witnessed a substantial increase, escalating from 950 rupees to an annual charge of 1800 rupees. This change is expected to impact those seeking licenses for light transport vehicles LTV as well, with the 5-year fee increasing from 950 to an annual payment of 2000 rupees.
Heavy Transport and Tractor License Adjustments:
For heavy transport licenses, the 5-year fee, which was previously 450 rupees, has now been revised to an annual charge of 2000 rupees. Similarly, the tractor license fee, formerly 450 rupees for 5 years, will now incur an annual charge of 1000 rupees.
Commercial Vehicle and Special Categories:
Commercial tractor licenses will also witness a substantial increase, shifting from a 5-year fee of 450 rupees to an annual charge of 1500 rupees. Notably, the Punjab government has abolished the Driving License Test fee for disabled persons, previously fixed at Rs.20 for 5 years. Public service vehicle licenses, previously set at 450 rupees for 5 years, will now be exempt from the annual charge of 1500 rupees.
General Fee Increase:
In a sweeping change, the driving license fees for the remaining categories have been hiked from Rs 100 to Rs 1000, representing an increase of up to 1000 percent.
Implementation and Public Awareness:
The revised fees are slated to be applicable from January 1. The Punjab government has assured the public that advertisements regarding the fee hike will be published soon to ensure widespread awareness and understanding of the changes in the fee structure.
