Punjab Launches Lahore’s First Electric Bus Service

Punjab Launches Lahore’s First Electric Bus Service
The Punjab government has taken a major step toward environmentally friendly transportation by introducing an electric bus service in Lahore. This initiative, led by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, aims to provide cost-effective and sustainable travel for daily commuters.
Expansion Plan: More E-Buses Coming Soon
The first phase of the project includes 27 electric buses, with 500 additional e-buses set to be added by August. Each bus is equipped with a 350 kWh battery, taking approximately three hours to charge with a 200 kWh charger. Meanwhile, a high-speed DC fast charger in Green Town can charge a bus in just 30 minutes. These buses offer a 300-kilometer range, allowing them to complete their 250-kilometer daily routes efficiently.
Fare & Free Travel for Select Groups
To make public transport more accessible, the government has introduced free rides for students, differently-abled individuals, and senior citizens. Other passengers can enjoy the service at a subsidized fare of Rs. 20, making it an affordable option for Lahore’s daily commuters.
- "I am delighted that the fare has been set at Rs. 20. High transport costs create financial strain, and this project will benefit around 17,000 passengers daily. These buses also feature free Wi-Fi, mobile charging stations, and CCTV cameras for enhanced safety," stated CM Punjab.
